“We are Grafton” t-shirts will be sold this week during all lunches, and at several Grafton varsity home sporting events for $10. Cash only please.

ALL of the money will go to the family of Toby Spruill (a GHS junior) who is currently battling stage IV Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and will soon undergo a stem cell transplant.  A special thanks to Coach Parker for gifting the Leadership Class with the shirts.



Prom packets were given out to students in Government classes last week.  Prom is Saturday, May 19th from 8:00-11:00 p.m. at the Marriott in City Center.  Tickets will be sold May 7-11 during lunch blocks for $50 each.  Guest forms and prom contracts must be turned in before purchasing tickets.  Extra copies of forms are available in the Main Office or from Mrs. Logan or Mr. Auth.


“Class Day” will he held on Friday, May 25th.  We will host a breakfast for seniors who purchase a ticket for $5 followed by a slide show and variety show in the auditorium during 2AB.  Tickets for Class Day can be purchased at the Prom table May 7-11.  (Students can use one check for both events, but After Prom must be paid separately.)

Additionally, we would love to have some parent volunteers to serve food at 7:30 p.m. on the 25th and will be asking for food donations as well.  This sign up will come out in an email to senior parents directly.

Lastly, we will be asking students to provide photos for the slide show, but wanted to give parents the opportunity to send in photos as well.  We want to represent as many members of the Class of 2018 as possible!  Photos can be emailed to Mrs. Logan at or Mr. Auth at before MAY 18th.


Parents will receive a mailed packet with graduation information and rehearsal dates in the next week.



Last day to preorder a Yearbook is May 18th!

The advisor anticipates selling out quickly so be sure to place a preorder from Jostens at the link below if you want to be guaranteed a book.


We will be manning a booth at the Kiwanis BBQ selling baked goods on Saturday, May 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  We need volunteers to be at the booth and to help by baking some homemade goodies to sell.  When you come by to get some delicious BBQ and Brunswick stew don’t forget to stop and support the bake sale.

All proceeds are going to support an initiative to stop children’s hunger.  No child should suffer an empty stomach.






Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from April 24th to May 17th.  All sessions will run 2:15 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. except for Earth Science which will run until 4:15 p.m.

Buses are available at 4:30 p.m. on each day.  See the attached schedule for more specific information.

Students will receive their SOL schedule/testing letter during 2AB on Monday, May 7th.


AP Testing Begins on Monday and runs through Friday, May 18th (see the attached schedule).  There are afterschool buses (Tuesdays-Thursdays at 4:30) for students to ride if they are testing at noon.

However, for the Psychology exam (Monday, May 7th), the APUSH exam (Friday, May 11th – half day) and for the European History exam (Friday, May 18th), students will need to find their own transportation home.

Is your student full of school spirit and active in the GHS school community?  Do they want to lead their peers by making changes around the school or helping their class with activities?  If so, your child is encouraged to apply for the GHS SCA (Student Council Association) or for a Class Officer position.

AFTER PROM TICKET SALES – Ticket sales begin Monday, May 7th during all lunch blocks.  Before student can purchase a ticket they MUST complete an after prom packet for themselves and their guest.  The packets can be found at

*Note:  Students need to have some form of ID to get into after prom.  They will not be admitted without a photo ID

PLAZA AZTECA FUNDRAISER – Enjoy dinner at Plaza Azteca on Highway 17 on Thursday, May 10th from 4:00 – 10:00 p.m.  Mention Grafton and After Prom gets 10% of the proceeds.

AFTER PROM MIDNIGHT CRUISIN’ VOLUNTEERS – May 19th/20th – We need LOTS of volunteers on the night of After Prom.  Please sign up using the link below.  If we don’t have enough volunteers we will have to eliminate some areas at the YMCA and the students will not be able to enjoy all the fun things we have for them.

FOOD DONATION FOR AFTER PROM – Our seniors will be cruisin’ the night away and need yummy snacks and drinks for their voyage.  The kids will sail past the cafe on their way to games and activities all night long and they’ll need lots of energy to keep them afloat.  Be a Mate and sign up to donate today! go/10c0848a9ad23a0fa7-food



Have you heard of the Fresh Air Fund?  Do you have the ability to offer a child from New York City an unforgettable summer?

The Fresh Air fund is an independent, not-for-profit agency that has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877.  Visiting the home of a supportive and encouraging volunteer host family can make all the difference in the world to a New York City child.  Volunteer host families provide Fresh Air children with a unique and fun summer experience in a new environment.

Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies

If you are looking for summer programs to help your students improve their reading skills please check out the attached flyer (2 pages) for classes in Hampton and Williamsburg.  The classes offer help in phonics, fluency, comprehension, love of reading, textbook skills and speed reading.




We still have the following standing committee vacancies for next year:

Reflections – National PTA sponsored art contest that runs from mid-September to end of October.  Grafton has performed very well over the last couple of years and has sent some student entries onto District and State level.  The time needed for this committee is concentrated at the beginning of the school year and is finished by end of October.  This committee chair works with the GHS Fine Arts Department and the English Department to encourage student participation.

Baccalaureate – A non-denominational faith-based ceremony that celebrates the graduating class and recognizes not only their achievements up to this point, but also focuses on their personal growth in their future.  This committee chair will organize the elements that make up this ceremony such as a faith-based speaker, a choral or band performance, refreshments and volunteers to help set up.  This committee begins  planning around the month of March/April and the ceremony takes place on a Sunday in June just before Graduation.

The PTSA is pleased to announce that we are now taking applications for the Grafton High School PTSA Volunteer Excellence Scholarship for 2018.

The Volunteer Excellence Scholarship was established by the Grafton High School Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA) to recognize GHS seniors who perform outstanding volunteer service of a sustained, direct, and consequential nature to our school and local community; and can best articulate the impact their volunteerism has made on their school, community and self.

The application form and the rules are attached, they are also available on the PTSA website.  This scholarship is open only to current Seniors who are 2017-18 PTSA members.  Please read the rules carefully then print the application form and present it along with any supporting documentation in a sealed envelope marked PTSA Scholarship to the front office by end of the school day on Tuesday 29th May.  Scholarship winners will be presented at the Senior Award Night.

The Grafton Athletic Booster Club is pleased to announce that we were able to award 10 Summer Camp Athletic Scholarships this year.

Athletes in the following sports were awarded scholarships:  Basketball, Baseball, Cross Country, Soccer and Wrestling. Thank you for supporting the GABC!


Grafton Athletic Club is pleased to announce the continuation of its Post-Secondary Program.  Any senior athletes interested in applying, and meet the eligibility requirements, please complete the application and return it to the guidance office by Friday, May 11th.  Applications are available in the guidance office or on the GABC website:  Grafton Athletic Booster Club – Home

The scholarships will be in the amount of $1,000 each.  The sole purpose of the Booster Club is to support GHS/GMS athletic programs and our athletes.  Therefore, we offer this scholarship to assist with continuing education and to show our appreciation for student’s efforts while at Grafton High School.


Interested in supporting Grafton’s Sports Activities?  Consider joining the GABC for only $10.00.  You may be wondering where the money goes.  All of your $10.00 returns back to the athletes in equipment for each sport as well as hosting the end of the season banquet.  Senior recognition is also supported by the booster club, along with scholarships.  You can join the GABC on-line too.




Registration for Summer Academy at Grafton High School starts this Tuesday, May 1st – Tuesday, June 8th.  Tuition for a Virtual High School Academy course is $550 for an original 1.0 credit course, $450 for a 1.0 credit recovery (repeat) and $300 for 0.5 (semester) credit.  Checks are made out to Grafton High School.

Students may earn up to 3 credits, 1 course for original credit and no more than 2 courses for repeat credit.  Virtual High School Academy will offer an on-site computer lab at Grafton High School Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The onsite option is a structured environment which includes teachers to help monitor students’ progress.

To register, students must first see their school counselor to complete a registration form.
